November Manna

From l to r: Katrina Boucher, Clare Woodward, IrRev. Nicky Blair, Laura Blakley, Gavin Robinson, Jill Boyd and Dr Alistair McCracken (Dave Currie, Charlie Knox and Andrew Frame had just left!)

An interesting morning which looked at God as Creator yet the marginalsied can't see this. Alistairs big passion is for children's work and while most of us are youth workers we kinda simplify childrens work. Al believes some sunday school teachers don't teach good theology. Our expectations are low and we should ask ourselves and the children - "What do we hope to achieve this morning?"

Al encouraged us to read the Bible stories and ask "how do you respond to the story?". We need to engage with the Bible and allow space for our children and young people to engage with the Bible.

This also led to us asking if some adults remain with children's theology??

We need to be trainers rather than teachers, in that we help people explore. A lot of youth don't really know the God they are praising. So the warning comes from Isaiah 29:

These people honour me with their lips but their hearts are far from me

Al encouraged us t read a book called 'Reading the Bible with the damned' check out this link.

Another book was Eugene Petersons practical theology 'Eat this book'

I shall finish where Al started: Would you like to have met Jesus?' - discuss!
